In 2015, Joe Zaroovabeli – founder and owner of The Rare Gem – traveled to Tanzania to explore for more Alexandrites.
Everywhere he went in Tundura, the idea of finding alexandrite was quickly dismissed.
Any size he asked for was simply not mined anymore. Finding even 1 or 2 carat size Alexandrites is still a task.
You can imagine how excited he was to find this 3.23 carat stone!
This stone has a longer bottom than normally cut gemstones, which maintains the color change.
As gem scholar and writer Richard W. Wise says: “the finest of the Tanzanian alexandrites is among the best in the world.” (Secrets of the Gem Trade. The Connoisseur’s Guide to Precious Gemstones. Second Edition. 2016 Richard W. Wise).
There is no telling whether we will find another one like this again.
In the right hands it will maintain its beauty and luster for generations.
Call us now to discuss this beautiful alexandrite.
